The Bill Horsman & Jerry Koistra Show

Monday, April 16th, 2007

For the unfortunate Club Members that missed the last social night when the above characters came along to show off the new very fast Honda and talk about the development and racing, missed an excellent and very entertaining evening.

Jerry even bought along a standard Honda motor open for all to see with the modified motor as well for comparison. The engineering of fitting a six speed cluster in the four speed case was actually “beautiful” to look at.

Jerry also had a standard head and the new head on display and the similarity is non existent. Once again, it was obvious that the engineering required to carry out the extensive modifications is well above the ability of most of us.

Bill and Jerry gave sufficient insight to display that their championship winning history is a combination of doing everything to the “nth” degree and a full commitment to success both in riding and engineering.

A very entertaining evening to say the least. Perhaps we could negotiate another evening down the track to listen to tales from the past!

ATUJARA CLASSIC RALLY NO. 1 – 2007

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

Well everything was set to go for our first run of the year, the duke has been cleaned, the barby packed. Now all we had to do was turn up Sunday morning ready to ride!

It was a great morning, just right for riding; all the regulars turned up, plus two more riders who I had not met before, one on a Ducati Multistrada and the other on a R1150S BMW.

We left at 8.30, the group following me, but yes I took a wrong turn, still in the suburbs and lost half the group, my father and Alistair and Allan. After ½ hour of confusion, we found dad and Alistair who had caught up with Allan at our first stop which was at Marble Hill. We had phoned to meet Lew Dowsett and Fred Grenekle here, who had been waiting while the group had been getting lost. Fred had bought his son Stirling along for the ride as well.

Our ride from Marble Hill lead us through to Ashton, Mount Lofty, Ironbank and onto Clarendon. We then wound our way through Kuitpo Forest and back to Meadows Bakery for our morning break.

With the morning break finished, our ride was now to go through to Ashbourne, back to Strathalbyn, onto Woodchester and finally Langhorne Creek for a barbecue lunch.

It was just a great day for riding, our two extras dropping off at Strathalbyn to visit Mary Lou’s Garage while the rest of us rode onto Langhorne Creek.

Lunch break was over and time to go home. It was back through Strathalbyn and onto Macclesfield where Lew dropped off to his place, while we rode onto Clarendon, where Dave Beck left us.

I left the group at Flagstaff Hill, and Lloyd, Allan and Morvan rode on home to finish a great ride.

I hope everyone enjoyed the ride, Allan and I will soon be sitting down to plan the next one!
Till then, ride safe!!
Cheers
